Bits & bobs

A better look at recent acquisitions mentioned before.  Here for a change, I am having coffee instead of tea.

Had to rearrange the dish cabinets (to accomodate new items) and finally got my eclectic teacup collection (tho by no means all of it) arranged in a satisfying way.

 I had broken my old black teapot (I use in October) and just now have found a replacement along with a red one to match some dishes that are on the way to me.  But I've always wanted a bright red teapot anyhow!

Easter is near!

In honor of Easter coming I am posting Holman-Hunt's great picture.  It is called "The Light of the World" but when he first conceived of it he was thinking of the words from Revelation, "I stand at the door and knock..."   I think knowing that about this painting makes a difference.

This is a VERY, VERY busy month in all respects.  And while I have not gotten a picture with my shamrock mats etc. I have at least gotten a green one.   This was my breakfast setting this very morning. 

I have recently gotten some new dishes added to my year-long monthly swap-out plan and they can partly be seen here.   The pitcher is a lovely white porcelain thing I found at the local antiques store.  The tall creamer and sugar are Westmoreland Milk Glass.   There is also a set of green depression glass creamer & sugar which I am currently using. 
I found the green glass candlestick at the antique store too as well as the Lenox cup and saucer which have been added to my eclectic collection of those. 

I like the square white porcelain set I got and yes, I am having soup for breakfast!
Easter is nigh and I am going to soon get out my bins and decorate for that - I WILL have more pictures!

Pre-Raphaelites are on the wall!

As I mentioned earlier, I am rereading now 3 books related to the Pre-Raphaelites, My Grandmothers and I, Pre-Raphaelites in Love & My Grandfather: His life and loves.

I found a plate in one of them which I, shockingly, took out of a book eons ago.  It was of Georgiana McDonald who married Burne-Jones.  I knew I had more and wondered where they had got to.  Long story short I was looking in a book on papermaking and found them.   It was time to get them into frames and up in my craft room.  Here they are:

Album 2004

An Alium I bought one Saturday in 2004 at the Farmer's Market.  I'd never had one before and it lasted quite a long time.

There is a nice view behind it of my Burne-Jones print and my "po-teers" and a nicely blurred vision into the dining room and kitchen.



















Below is a December lunch using my Christmas china, and a picture of our Christmas dinner that year.   Also new and on the table is my Advent Wreath.

And at the end of the year 2004 we spent the week between Christmas and New Year's patching, priming and painting our living room.    In the picture on the lower left side you can see the patching going on in the dining room. 

This is the cover of an album I made for 2004, when we lived in our house.
This Tiara Indiana Glass amber teacup was one of pair I found at an antique store on Hwy 31 north during the summer of that year. 

I would love to have this lamp hanging again.  However, it weighs about 30 lbs and we just don't have the space - well, we do but hubby isn't willing to go the great trouble it would take to hang it and I cannot blame him.   He is going to try and hang the 2-branch one we have and I am looking forward to that. 

 

And this is my beloved tea set in front of the dining room window.  The stained glass was a piece my mother made for a door for a place I lived in 1979.  Through many moves and much turmoil it lost a lot of pieces but I had it restored and fixed in 2004.   As of now, 2012, it is sitting in my mother's window where she lives.
